After 18 years of servitude to the Man I’ve reached a turning point in my life. With my 40th birthday approaching it has become high time that I follow my heart and do something that I love. Because of that I have quit my job and decided to "go pro".
With the current economic situation in the US I’ve been able to refinance my home for a very low rate and with the money I’ll save in gas my poker income should be enough. I know that 6 months living expenses is preferred but considering my past results 3 months should be plenty. I’ve never had more than one losing month in a row ever so I should be able to play through any down swing.
My Wife is very supportive of my decision and has gone back to full time hours so we will have medical insurance. My kids aren’t sure what to think because all they are concentrating on is wanting a Wii. I’m a good enough player though that I should be able to get them one in a few weeks.
Since I have rakeback deals at Full Tilt and Cake Poker my play will be exclusively at these sites. I’ve worked out a schedule for daily play:
7-8 get the kids ready for school and drop them off
8-11 sleep
11-12 run 12 SNG’s at the $6.50 level
12-1 lunch and watch TV
1-2 If I had any profit from the first SNG session then I will play level II token satellites, if not then more $6.50 SNG’s
2-3 Level III or Level IISNG’s depending on what tokens I have
3-4 pick up the kids from school and get them started on homework
4-5 more SNG’s
5-9 Time with the family
9-3 various tournaments
3-7 sleep
I’ll do that Monday thru Friday and take the weekend off. I know the major tournaments are on Sundays but I’m not bankrolled to play in them anyway. Besides I’ve always wanted a job where I could have weekends and holidays off. I’ve never had that before.
As always I will be updating my play so be sure to stick around and follow my progress. I should be able to qualify for the WSOP Main Event so maybe I’ll see some of you in Vegas.
You can find me online under the name lifesagrind at Full Tilt and slooflirpa on Cake Poker. Look me up.
I’ve re-branded my blog “An Interactive Blog”. Some aesthetic changes have taken place but the real interactivity comes in several parts.
Part One
I’ve already announced that I am broadcasting my poker play (with hole cards) whenever I play. A schedule is set up and listed on my page so you can tune it at certain times.
Part Two
I will also be broadcasting at random times when I’m not playing poker. When I get moved in two weeks to a new house I will have a setup for this but in the mean time I’ll be on video whenever I’m working on the new Poker Tech Reviews site.
Part Three
I have my own IRC channel that can be accessed on my site via a flash client, or you can find me at irc.wyldryde.net channel #lifesagrind. I will be in the chatroom no matter what I’m doing whenever I’m online, and I’m online in front of a computer most of my waking hours.
Part Four
A new commenting system has been implemented. This is the Disqus commenting client and it is a social commenting system that acts a a mini forum. You can comment not only on a post, but also on other comments. Commenter’s can be rated as well which is important within the social aspects of the client.
Part Five
The blog will start taking on a wider range of topics. I’ve always kept this blog a straight forward poker diary but it’s time to branch out a little. Obviously the poker content will still be here but rather than start yet another blog I will be posting other things here. This means my other interests will start to infiltrate the posts leading to an increase in posting.
Alas I simply no longer have time to spend playing tournaments. Getting the business off the ground is my primary concern and I’m spending all of my free time doing that. I am playing SNG’s during my scheduled live times because I enjoy that but I won’t be playing much else for the foreseeable future.
I’ve placed a new post up on the Poker Tech Reviews blog welcoming EasyCure as a partner. He has proven to be a hard working person who embraces the entrepreneurial spirit. Please stop by and help me welcome him to the team.
I’m adopting a new approach to my blogroll. Leading up to this point I have only listed in my blogroll the blogs that I had time to read. That list is now populated by some blogs that are no longer updated so I will be cleaning house tonight to get rid of them. I am also looking to expand my blog reading so if you link to me, I’ll link to you. Leave a comment to this post with the address of your blog and I’ll link you up post haste.
Ok, I’ve solved the problem I had with the design of the livecasting page. I just did away with it. If you go to that page you will be redirected to the new page which is now built inside the blog. There is also now a “chat” tab located in the site menu which will lead you to the chat room (see how clever that is). In addition I’ve decided that whenever I’m online I’m going to have the chat room open. This way no matter when you stop by you can say hi!
