I don’t really remember the last time I actually played poker. Things have taken a quick turn in my life and I don’t know when, or if, I’ll be playing again.
My son who has lived with his mom, and spent summers with me, since he was 2 years old has decided to live with us for his High School years. We couldn’t be more happy about it but now having three kids with separate activities, well, you parents out there can imagine the lack of free time left over.
I’ve also found out that the company I work for will be laying me off at the end of August. The local location I work at will be closing down so that leaves me on the outs. I have some job leads so I hope to find something soon, but I can’t justify leaving money in the poker accounts if I don’t have an income. The whole “going pro” thing would be too stressful and I’d fail miserably at it.
That leaves me to decide what I’m going to do with this blog. I’ve been at it for over four years so it seems like a waste to just let it die. I suppose I could start commentating on news items or promotions but I don’t know if anyone would read it.
If anybody still reading this has any suggestions please leave me a comment.
When the average blog writer thinks of a software company that is innovative and offers tremendous free products, Microsoft is not usually the first that springs to mind. In fact, I would venture to claim that Microsoft would never spring to mind.
All that can change now. I present Windows Live Writer. Claiming this piece of software is perfect may sound like a stretch, admittedly it probably is a bit of a stretch, but since I’ve been using it I’ve found lots of Pros and no Cons.
Windows Live Writer is part of the new Windows Live initiative. This includes several productivity products all of which seem to be pretty darn good at what they do. Live Writer is designed to be a blog posting tool capable of posting to the most popular blogging platforms. These include Spaces, SharePoint, Wordpress, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, Moveable Type, and others. I have personally used it to post to Blogger and Wordpress blogs without any issues whatsoever.
The feature that pops out at you the most is during the initial setup of Live Writer. When adding a Weblog to Live Writer for posting, the program asks for permission to auto detect your theme. This is a killer feature as it makes Live Writer a WYSIWYG editor for your blog. This is complete with background and text coloring. When it comes time to publish you’ll see that all of your previously used categories are available as well as tags and other advanced options. Inline images and video are also part of this experience.
Do you want to write html code into your post? You have that option. There are several view options including web preview which places your post right into a layout of your actual site. Writing posts is as easy as writing in any other word processor application. There is a toolbar for easy formatting and everything is intuitive and straight forward. A sidebar offers quick links to previous posts and drafts. This is where you will use another excellent extension of the program.
That extension is plug-ins. These plug-ins range from incorporating images directly from flickr, to streaming silverlight applications. The Plug-ins can be written by anyone with the desire to do so, this can lead to some being better than others. Pay attention to the comments of other users and you should be able to avoid the bad ones.
There is more to experience with this program but I encourage you to download and try it for yourself. Once you’ve had a chance to use it let me know how it works for you.
A few posts back I mentioned I was starting a new site. Moving my blog to it’s own URL wasn’t it.
The announcement is I will be launching a Poker Software and Hardware Review site at PokerTechReviews.com. You will notice that I used the word “will” when I mentioned that. This site hasn’t gotten far past the very initial planning stages at this time. I will however be chronicling everything having to do with the planning, implementation, and launch of the site at the PokerTechReviews Blog. I encourage everyone to check this blog out as I will be looking for feedback from all of you. After all, the site will be catered to you when it launches.
I also ask that anyone who reads this also mention it in your own blog. I’m looking for a bit of a viral ground swell as I hope to solicit some very specific help over the next few days. The first post is already up and I’ll be writing a few more in rapid succession.
Thanks in advance for everyone’s help in spreading the word.
This blog will be moving. After a few years of doing this I’ve decided to take a bit more control over my blogging. All of this blogs content will soon be moving to lifesagrindpoker.com. This transition will take a few days and when complete their will be cross posting for a few weeks. This will allow everyone time to update their RSS feeds.
In the meantime my new home for livecasting is up and running at live.lifesagrindpoker.com. This page will present the live feed plus an IRC channel for us to chat in. This is a different chatroom than I’ve been using so far so stop in, say hi, and spend some time talking about the Mookie.
I finally played some poker on Monday night. Not much, only two low buyin tourneys, out before the first break in both. I’m still riding the X-Box 360 Christmas high so playing poker has taken a backseat.
That doesn’t mean I’m not writing about poker though. I’ve been wanting to do more writing lately, but I didn’t want to use this blog as that outlet. This is supposed to be a poker diary blog and I’m going to keep it that way.
I’ve been leaning toward writing more op-ed pieces so for that my writing home will be pokersift.com. My posts can be found here. The first post is already up so I encourage you to to go check it out.
This blog will also continue as it always has so don’t stop that feed.
